Georgia has some of the most restrictive ballot access laws in the United States.
In fact, Georgia law requires 5% of registered voters sign petitions in order to appear on the ballot., however, Republican and Democrat candidates are automatically listed.
Robin Gilmer is a Libertarian candidate for the United States House of Representatives, Georgia Congressional District 9. As a plaintiff in the lawsuit, he wants to add an independent voice to an old two-party system designed to keep the competition out.
The 9th district counties include: Towns, Union, Fannin, Gilmer, Lumpkin, White, Dawson, Banks, Rabun, Hart, Madison, Jackson, Habersham, Franklin counties, as well as, sections of Pickens, Forsyth, Elbert and Clarke counties.
